Colorado - Saturday/Sunday - The Drive

So this is the first big post of Colorado pictures. We will break it out by days because we took a TON of pics! What a great time we had and Sam did AWESOME on his very first big family vacation. So without further ado, on to the pictures!

First stop along the way was in Galena, KS to see Mater!

Sam got a little shy about it at first, but he got into it when he got to drive :o)

They also had a fire truck that looked like Red :o)

We pushed it hard and made it all the way into Colorado that first day. Sam was pretty excited about staying at a hotel. The minute he saw the phone, he obsessed about calling somebody so I let him call Papa in the next room. He would say "Hello? Papa? Whatcha doin'? I'm good. Okay, bye. Love you." Sooooo cute :o)

The next morning we checked out a really old steam engine they had at the Amtrak station in town.

Papa's a train guy too :o)

Later that day we stopped at Bent's Old Fort. It's a reconstructed fur trading post on the Santa Fe Trail. Pretty darn cool place! I think Jason already posted a few of these pics, but it was easier to just post them again rather than sort them out. Sorry for the duplicates.

Sam loved all the cannons!

I thought this was so cool, they used quartz for windows! It looked really beautiful with the sunlight shining through

View from the top

There were train tracks nearby so they were trainspotting :o)

See? Another cannon

Sam kept getting gravel in his shoes so we kept having to find a place to sit & empty them out. But it made for a fun picture at least :o)

Cannon obsessed, I tell ya!

He really tried to push it, but the chains holding it in place had other ideas.

Made Mommy a little nervous how there was no railing or anything on the edge

This is where the livestock would have been kept

One of the MANY trains we saw on the drive

Like sardines in a can...

Jason drove the whole way out and the whole way back! What a trooper!

CHEESE!!!

The first big mountains we saw. This is just outside of Pueblo, CO

The road ahead

The Arkansas River

Stopped to take a few pics and Daddy climbed down on some rocks with Sam.
About gave Mommy a heart attack.
So nervous I didn't get a wider shot so you could see where they were standing
It was pretty darn windy!

Later we stopped at a great little pull off where we could go down to the water and check things out. Sam just wanted to throw rocks so we let him go at it!

Best. Picture. Ever.
Lee is yawning, Pam is being silly.
Just awesome.

Thought these two pics turned out so good :o)

When Daddy got the camera, Sam & Mommy got in the water to get a closer look at things

I picked up this rock and there were fish eggs all over it. So we had a nice little nature lesson :o)

FINALLY we arrived!! The view from the loft area of the cabin. Not too shabby!

View of "The Castles" from the deck

The view out the big window

Three generations of Ferber men hangin' on the deck

What a goober!
Well, that wraps the first 2 days. Stay tuned for more to come!
